Why I built this: Built to make a terminal-oriented fortune-style reader easier to access in the browser while preserving the character of ANSI-colored and ASCII-art output.
Overview
Fortune Reader is a browser frontend for a Linux CLI fortune-style reader. The project focused on translating terminal-native output into a web interface without losing the feel of colored console text, monospace formatting, or ASCII-art presentation.
The app wraps command-line behavior in a cleaner Next.js frontend and extends the experience with on-the-fly translation support. It was also deployed as a practical self-hosted stack using Docker on a Raspberry Pi server with Let's Encrypt for HTTPS.
Features
- Browser frontend for a Linux CLI fortune-style reader
- Preserves ANSI color output in the browser
- Uses monospace presentation for ASCII-art-friendly output
- Supports on-the-fly translation through CLI tooling
- Dockerized deployment
- Raspberry Pi hosting with Let's Encrypt HTTPS setup
